VISIT SCOTLAND

Introduction
Scotland is a small, North European country of around 79,000 square kilometres. There are just over 5 million Scots. Scotland is part of the United Kingdom, but it has its own devolved parliament based in the capital, Edinburgh, and its own distinct culture. Scotland offers an unrivalled range of things to see and do and that is why it makes a perfect place for a short holiday in summer. For the more energetic there are exceptional leisure facilities, including some of the world’s greatest golf courses, stunning mountain walks and thrilling watersports centres. If you simply want to relax, you can enjoy countless historic castles, monuments and museum or you can visit one of the beautiful islands of the West Coast.
What you want to do in Scotland
Imagine you spend five days in Scotland next summer and you absolutely want to ...
1. ... stay one night in Edinburgh - in a cheap and centrally located hostel.
2. ... visit an old castle and even spend a night there.
3. ... participate in a guided tour at a whiskey distillery.
4. ... taste traditional Scottish food.
5. ... visit one of the Islands of the West Coast.
6. ... climb Scotland's highest Mountain.
Task
Given you don't have to organise your trip from and to Switzerland, how does your itinerary look? Your trip should start and end in Scotland's capital, Edinburgh. Make a plan from day 1 to day 5 indicating what you visit and how you get there (by bus, ferry, train?).
1. What is the name of the hostel in Edinburgh and are there any tourist features that are close to it?
2. Which castle do you visit and spend a night at, what's its name and does it have a garden that can be visited as well?
3. Which distillery do you visit and what's the name of the whiskey that is made there? For how long is the whiskey stored in a barrel?
4. What are you going to eat? Where can you go and eat it?
5. What is the name of the island that you visit and why have you chosen this island and not another?
6. Where is Scotland's highest mountain and are there guided tours that you can book?
